I’ve noticed just in the past day or so, my Camry has developed an absolutely awful grinding/screech noise. (Nails on a chalkboard comes to mind) Seems to be coming from the left rear, and I’m not 100% sure what it could be...

To me, it sounds like my rear brake pads are completely gone, but what’s odd, is that when I actually tap the brakes, the noise goes away. Only makes the noise when I’m off of the brakes.

Even today - driving down the expressway I could hear the loud grind/screech, but once I tap the brakes, its gone... anyone have any ideas?...

I plan to stop by my mechanic on Wednesday, to see what the problem actually is. Hoping it’s nothing major.

I decided to do a search for v6 Camry coupes after seeing this. Found a post you made last year about halfway down the first page.

(edited to add, I was searching the internet at large, not Oppo)

Bearing gone, drum hitting on the backing plate, the pads re-allign wheel when applied causing noise to go away?

Just guessing. Grab each rear wheel and give it a shake.....

I sure hope it’s something that simple!

Bent dust sheild? I’ve had pad clips rub on the rotor and create some horrifying noises, too. The other thing to do would be to jack it up and make sure there’s no play in the wheel bearing. I wouldn’t call it exactly common, but a loose bearing could cause the rotor to get slightly out of alignment and rub something, then it gets squeezed back into place by the calliper.

I think the solution is to attach some bicycle tube to the exhaust tips to make more noise to cover up the other noise
